When should I use ZivaTrackerApp?
Open the web app immediately after you shot and before you get out of your stand. ZivaTrackerApp was developed to give hunters the best opportunity to recover their white tail deer. It is specifically designed to provide advice in the critical minutes after a shot has been made.
Why is the use of ZivaTrackerApp so important immediately?
Too often a deer is not recovered because of the actions in the first few minutes after the shot. Most of the time the animal is confused about what just happened and will go off a predictable distance to take inventory of it’s wound. If the shot is is lethal that distance may be as far as it goes. Fill out the 4 questions of the interview while the event is fresh in your mind. Identify the “hit site” so you can look for the evidence that you can compare to the report results.
Why shouldn’t I go to the “hit site” first?
Typically the animal will run a short distance and lay down or stand still to look for additional danger. If you move to that spot you will alert the animal and the flight response will kick in. Even if your shot was fatal it may take several minutes (or hours) for it to disable the animal completely. A fleeing deer can travel a half mile in just seconds and when they’re at that speed they are not leaving a lot of visible tracking evidence.
What advice will I get from ZivaTrackerApp?
ZivaTrackerApp uses your input to calculate a “Wound Path.” From there we identify organs and bones that may be affected. Identifying the Entry wound, Exit Wound and organs in between helps ZivaTrackerApp to suggest evidence at the “hit site” that may confirm your aim. Whitetail hair is different in the various areas of the hide. Validating the hair presented by ZivaTrackerApp matches evidence at the “hit site” suggests that the prediction ZivaTrackerApp made is valid. If something doesn’t match you will want to run ZivaTrackerapp again with a different Orientation or a different Entry Wound. This can be done multiple times in hope of matching “hit site” evidence before beginning your track.
How accurate is ZivaTrackerApp?
ZivaTrackerApp may not exactly match the results you experience. Our “Wound Path” calculation is a linear calculation to identify potentially damaged organs. Bones, branches and bushes can alter the trajectory of arrows, bolts and bullets. The animal can move before impact. Not every projectile’s energy is the same. It’s the “Wound Cavity” that will determine the fatal characteristics of the shot. Projectile mass and velocity determine the size of the “Wound Cavity.” ZivaTrackerApp use’s an algorythym that adjusts recovery difficulty according to the anticipated “Wound Cavity.” Ultimately ZivaTrackerApp is a tool for you to use early in the recovery process. The advice and information is based on the input of many experienced trackers.
What should I do if you suggest a long wait time, but I’m afraid of other predators, i.e. coyotes, beating me to my deer?
You have to choose the best course of action to match your situation. The further a wounded animal travels, the greater the distance it will distribute the scent of distress. It is likely you would give that predator an advantage it would not have had if you bump the animal into “flight mode.”
